
P.J. Rankin Hults & John Hults offer folk designed paper cuttings incorporating the traditional German folk art of Fraktur and Scherenschnitte in hand grained frames. Other offerings include boxes, small wooden furniture and lehnware.
P.J. Rankin Hults is a Lancaster, Pennsylvania based artist and designer. Pam is a graduate of Kutztown University in Art Education. After teaching, Pam went into business with her mother and they started Maple Croft Interiors twenty four years ago retailing furniture, clothing and home accessories.
In addition, Pam has designed for "Primitives By Kathy" wholesale business for the past ten years. Pam's love and avocation is creating original folk paper cuttings. Pam’s original designs combine the traditional Pennsylvania German folk art of Fraktur and Scherenschnitte, incorporating scissor cutting, watercolor, pen and ink on hand dyed paper. Pam’s originals have been at the gift shop in the American Folk Art Museum, N.Y., and the Lancaster Cultural Museum.
John Hults, Pam's husband for the past 27 years, met Pam at Kutztown University thirty years ago. John currently constructs, paints and grains the frames for Pam's artwork. In addition, John turns the various vessels that are painted in the Lehnware style, as well as paints and grains boxes. Pam and John have two children, Kasey and Ethan, and live in Strasburg, Pennsylvania on a hill overlooking Lancaster County.
